e-artnow new art event announcement service surfaces

ART PROMOTION EMAIL ANNOUNCEMENTS ART MARKETING

New art promotion website e-artnow is offering a free trial that lets art exhibitors or institutions send out a first announcement free of charge. The website, similar in style to e-flux, is a kind of information service that allows you publicise art auctions, conferences and the like through email announcements sent out to an email database.

This kind of service is certainly not new to contemporary art marketing practice; the well-respected e-flux, for example, has been operating since 1999. However, e-artnow’s announcement service is considerably cheaper than what is offered by other direct email sites. After the free one-time-only trial, future announcements will cost €150 each. A pre-paid package of 500 for five announcements is also available.

As a comparison, e-flux charges around $700 (or around 540) per announcement. In terms of database demographics, both websites claim to have a similar database size (50,000+ for e-flux and 55,000+ for e-artnow) consisting of mostly European visual art professionals, although both websites are beginning to expand into Asia.

Another website offering a similar service is Art&Education, a collaboration between e-flux and Artforum. It boasts a mailing list comprised of over 60,000 international readers and seems to focus on a more academic audience.

The Internet is integral to art marketing, so it’s good to see some competition brewing between the announcement services offered to art professionals. Do you use an announcement service as part of your art marketing? If so, is it one we mention above or another we haven’t covered? We would be interested to know and encourage you to leave a comment below.
